Whats your view on reality programmes? Do you like certain ones and not others or are they a pointless waste of space? I would be interested to know

They are simply a cheap, tacky idea that was funny for the first couple of shows, but quickly became jaded, monochromatic and dealing to the lowest common denominator. It was funny to watch the public make fools of themselves the first few ties, but to have people become famous for it is ridiculous. They simply play to the cult of celebrity and to the people who just want to get famous and rich fast without having any talent or skill, and without doing any work to earn it.

The TVs companies will keep churning it out, because it is cheap to make and appeals to those in society that don’t want to think for themselves, try to make anything of themselves or do anything for themselves.

Any totalitarian government would love what we are doing to ourselves in this country. We are voluntarily making thinking to be the exception to the rule and promoting and rewarding lack of intelligence, ignorance and apathy. This is the absolute dream of any government that wants to be able to do whatever it wants without anyone trying to stop them, because the less educated or motivated the populace is, the less chance there is of anyone asking “where did all that money go?” or “Why are you doing that when no one wants you to?”

But seriously... I think one or two reality TV shows have had some interest as a 'social experiment' - like the one where a family tried to live as authentically as possible in the '1900 House'. But shows like that are very different from the tacky and shallow 'Big Brother' and 'Celebrity Love Island' type. I feel sorry for the people who go on these shows because they've been encouraged to see it as a passport to 'celebrity' status, whereas most of the viewers just watch them to see who's arguing and flirting with each other. You could say that these shows degrade the viewers as much as the participants.

I dont feel sorry for the participants at all. They all know what they are getting into when they apply to be on them and most of them do it thinking they are gonna make a pile of money and get their 15 minutes of fame.
If the public continue to watch these programmes the the TV companies will carry on making them as they cost little to make and pull in huge viewing figures and then there is the money they make from the phone lines.
I personally dont watch them as they are full of egotistical halfwits !
